Austin Lucas was born and raised in Bloomington, Indiana. His father, Bob Lucas, was a professional musician who played guitar, banjo, and fiddle; he recorded several solo albums, was a member of the group Eclectricity, and wrote songs that were recorded by Alison Krauss, Sam Bush, and the New Grass Revival.
