Heroes get remembered, but legends never die. Follow your heart kid, and you'll never go wrong. Have the games held up okay, or are they borderline unplayable for new players, like some old games? What I mean is, controls, gameplay mechanics etc. I got into the originals about 4 years ago when I was 15, and I liked them just fine.

They don't play like any other game out on the market today, which I think is a good thing. It uses tank controls, which means pressing right on the d-pad turns your character right, pressing left turns your character left, down makes them back up, and up makes them go forward, no matter which direction they're facing. This may sound cumbersome, but it's actually better than "normal" controls, where you press left and you go left on the screen etc.

The game has fixed camera angles. Tank controls are the only way to keep the controls consistent, because the fixed camera angles are all at different angles relative to the player. Resident Evil 0 HD and REmake HD on Steam have a "normal" control option, and some people prefer that, but I just feel that the tank controls both add to the challenge and are more consistent. And I don't know what you mean by some old games being borderline unplayable. Well, I'm thinking more of the really old games that are either super hard or very obscure if you don't have a walkthrough in front of you.

Something about old-style game design where they just didn't do as good as job letting the player know what they should be doing. Not that I demand an objective marker in every game, because that's obnoxious too, but simple things like how Left 4 Dead uses light to show you where to go? That's the sort of trick that is often missing in older games.

And sometimes archaic mechanics, like a lack of a save system in NES games, or literal trial-and-error gameplay where you have to memorize exactly what to do and do it perfectly or else you die can make a game less enjoyable. Tank controls are fine. Not my favorite, but RE4 had them.

Tank controls probably work better with a fixed camera than they do in RE4. LightningaIe 5 years ago 6. They encourage you to explore and investigate the environment to figure out where you can and can't go and what you have to do to get into the places you can't get into. That's the entire point of them.

And RE2 doesn't even have a release date let alone any images, videos, etc. The game isn't going to be out for at least a few years so you may as well play through RE2. And yes, they play fine on PSP. And trial and error gameplay isn't 'archaic'.

Just because certain types of game mechanics and game genres don't appeal to you doesn't make them 'archaic'. That's one of the main reasons why we can't get quality survival horror games anymore because too many people for whom the games were never intended for in the first place come in complaining about this being dated, that being restrictive, that being clunky, etc.
